Toyota uses the Scion brand to produce vehicles specifically to
the North American market. 2016 Scion FR-S is the youngest
brand in the Scion lineup. The 2016 model will undergo needed
facelift to keep it at par with modern developments in the
industry. The new changes are targeted to its weight, styling
2016 Scion FR-S Exterior
The exterior of the new 2016 Scion FR-S will be lighter at
2,759 lbs for the manual model and 2,806 lbs for the automatic
model. The new FR-S will stretch 166.7 inches in length, 69.9
inches width and 50.6 inches tall with a wheelbase of 101.2
inches. Its low ground clearance of 4.9 inches boosts its
center of gravity which improves its balance making it one of
the best vehicles to handle from all Toyota brands.
The front features a drag-race looking hood with a low grille
integrated with LED headlamps that look like eardrops. Fog
lights are also embedded on either side of the grille. The rear
features a haunch with circular brake lights. The rear diffuser
comes with two chrome exhaust pipes on either side. The vehicle
will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels.
2016 Scion FR-S Interior
The interior has been designed with minimalist aesthetic but
with high functionality. This has been done using durable
plastics and carbon-look accents. To start with, the vehicle
offers keyless entry to the cabin. Its steering wheel bezel has
been redesigned to offer a sport feel and features a
leather-wrapped steering with power-steering. The rear seats
can be folded flat to increase cargo space.
The center console features a 7-inch touch-screen display with
a higher resolution. Other standard features include a
8-speaker AM/FM/CD Pioneer sound system, HD radio, Bluetooth
connectivity, auxiliary input, USB ports and a rear-view
For safety purposes, the car comes with an array of driving
aides which include cruise control, stability control, traction
control, ABS, electronic brake-force distribution and brake
assist. It also comes with front and side airbags for the
driver and front passenger and side curtains airbags for all
The vehicle also features a tire-pressure monitoring system as
well as a start/stop system that helps save on gas. The 2016
FR-S will be offered in a single trim package.
Engine Specs and Preformance
The power-train is not Scion FR-S’s best dance shoes. It
comes with a 2.0 L 4-cylinder gas power-train. The engine will
have an output of 200 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. It is mated
with either a paddle-shifted 6-speed automatic transmission
system or a 6-speed manual one. Power will be transmitted to
the rear wheels.
The 2016 Scion FR-S accelerates from 0-60 mph in 6.0 seconds.
In terms of fuel economy, the 2016 FR-S returns EPA- estimated
25 mpg for city and 34 mpg on highway drive when paired with an
automatic transmission. Models with manual transmission deliver
22 mpg for city and 30 mpg on highway.
Price and release date
The automaker has not released official date on the 2016 Scion
FR-S release date and price. However, rumor has it that the
model with manual transmission has a start MSRP of $ 25,305
while the model with atomic transmission costing $ 26, 405. We
believe the vehicle will make its debut in October 2015 at the
Tokyo Motor Show.
Fierce competitors will include Hyundai Genesis Coupe and
Mazda-MX5, Ford Mustang, Toyota FT-1 and Chevrolet Camaro might also put up some
competition while the jointly developed Subaru BRZ will also give its cousin a run
for its money.
